The Cyprus Police was established in 1960 by the Constitution of the Republic of Cyprus (Article 130). The duties and responsibilities of Cyprus Police are set out in the Police Law (N.73 (I)/2004) and include:
– The maintenance of law and order
– The safeguarding of peace
– The prevention and detection of crime and
– The arrest and prosecution of offenders

The Cyprus Police Services which handle issues of G.B.V. within the framework of their duties and responsibilities are:

– Crime Investigation Departments
– Domestic Violence and Child Abuse Office
– Office of Combating Trafficking in Human Beings
– Police Prosecution Office
– Cyprus Police Academy
