Ministry of Justice and Public Order

Ministry of Justice and Public order activities include the promotion, in collaboration with the Supreme Court, of legislative and administrative measures for the unhampered administration of Justice and the smooth functioning of the courts and criminological research for the formation of policies for the prevention and suppression of crime. It has also the responsibility, through the Police Force that the Minister of Justice and Public Order politically heads, of the maintenance of law and order, the preservation of peace and the prevention and detection of crime. Furthermore, the Ministry of Justice and Public Order is dealing with the conclusion of bilateral agreements and the accession of the Republic to multilateral conventions on legal/judicial co-operation and also in security matters and the prevention and combat of crime. The Ministry acts as central authority for the implementation of several treaties in this field. Finally the Ministry is the link between the Judiciary and the Executive with responsibilities of providing for the buildings, technical equipment and supporting staff of the Courts.

The Ministry of Justice and Public Order strengthens the work of the Association for the Prevention and Handling of Violence in the Family through an annual sponsorship from the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women which is part of the Ministry. Also, the Ministry, following its recommendation and its award by the Ministry Council, subsidizes our Association to extend the operation of the Helpline for the domestic violence to 24hour.

Furthermore, on September of 2013 the Ministry of Justice and the Public Order, the “Hope for Children” UNCRC Policy Center and the Association for the Prevention and Handling of Family Violence, signed a cooperation protocol for children’s disappearance cases. On July of 2018 a new cooperation protocol was signed between the Ministry of Justice and Public order and the Association for the Prevention and Handling of Violence in the Family, with a view to communicating and clarifying the actions of the Parties for cases of violence in the family and better cooperation between them.

Within our cooperation with the Ministry, the President of our Association, Kiki Poyiatzi, holds the position of coordinator of the Committee against Violence and Trafficking of the Ministry.
